Overview

About the Xiaomi YU7

The Xiaomi YU7 is the smartphone maker's second car: a five-seat electric SUV, 5 metres long, that rivals the Tesla Model Y in China. The range starts with a rear-drive Standard version priced at 233,500 yuan (about $44,000 CAD at today's exchange rate), with a 73 kWh LFP battery and 643 km of CLTC range. At the top sits the YU7 GT, launched on 21 May 2026 at 389,900 yuan. It is the version in our photos, recognizable by its GT badge, larger front splitter and red calipers. Two motors deliver 738 kW (1,003 PS) and 1,068 Nm, for 0-100 km/h in 2.92 seconds and a 300 km/h top speed. The 101.7 kWh NMC battery, supplied by CATL on an 897-volt platform, is rated at up to 705 km CLTC and charges from 10 to 80 % in 12 minutes. Fitted with an optional Track Package, Xiaomi says the GT lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:22.755, a record for a production SUV. For Canadian buyers the reality check is blunt: the YU7 is sold only in mainland China, Xiaomi has announced nothing for North America, and CLTC range figures are far more generous than what you would see on a Quebec highway in January.

Editorial take

Our Verdict

Strengths

  • GT: 738 kW, 0-100 km/h in 2.92 s and 300 km/h, from a five-seat family SUV
  • 10-80 % fast charge in 12 minutes on the GT's 101.7 kWh battery (897 V platform)
  • LiDAR, 4D radar and NVIDIA Thor driver-assistance hardware standard on every version
  • Heat pump, heated, ventilated and massaging front and rear seats, plus 25-speaker Dolby Atmos audio on the GT

Watch Out For

  • Sold only in mainland China, with no announcement for North America
  • The 705 km is a CLTC figure; real-world winter range will be much lower
  • The GT weighs 2,460 kg and its rear cargo shrinks to 660 L
  • The Nürburgring record used a Track Package that, per Xiaomi, opens for presale only later in 2026

Up to $2,000, only if registered by Dec. 31, 2026

China-built EVs are not eligible for the federal rebate (EVAP, up to $5,000 in 2026), which is reserved for vehicles built in Canada or in a country that has a free-trade agreement with Canada. Quebec's Roulez vert pays up to $2,000, with no country-of-origin restriction, but only for a vehicle on the program's eligible list and registered by December 31, 2026, when the program ends. Until the Xiaomi YU7 is on sale in Canada, nothing guarantees it will qualify.

What this means for Canada

The YU7 is sold only in mainland China, and Xiaomi has announced no plan for Canada or North America. Even if it came here, a China-built vehicle is not eligible for the federal EVAP rebate. Three traps with the GT's numbers: the 705 km is a CLTC figure, several Chinese outlets report it requires the optional low-rolling-resistance tires (with a lower top speed), and the Nürburgring record car wore a Track Package that is not yet on sale. Xiaomi publishes neither the peak DC charging power in kW nor Android Auto support. Apple CarPlay is listed in China.

The two columns do not rest on the same footing. The rival is described from its Canadian specification; the Chinese vehicle from the market where it is actually sold today. Any future Canadian version could differ.

Tesla Model Y Standard Range — These figures describe the Rear-Wheel Drive, the version this page covers. The Premium All-Wheel Drive at $64,990 adds 15-speaker audio with a subwoofer, ventilated front seats and 11.5 kW AC charging. Separately, Tesla publishes unusually little equipment detail in Canada: a heat pump, Apple CarPlay, front trunk volume and pack architecture appear nowhere on tesla.com/en_CA — for the heat pump that is a documentation gap, not a missing part, so read those cells as unknown rather than absent. What Tesla does confirm: NACS charging with a J1772 adapter included, and Full Self-Driving (Supervised) as an $11,000 option or $99 a month.

"Not published" means the manufacturer does not document this — not that the vehicle lacks it.
