Frequently asked questions

What is the federal EVAP rebate?

The EVAP (Electric Vehicle Affordability Program) replaced iZEV in February 2026. It offers $5,000 for BEVs and $2,500 for PHEVs, but only for vehicles made in Canada or a free-trade agreement partner country. The transaction price must be $50,000 or less. Chinese-built EVs are NOT eligible because Canada has no FTA with China.

How much is the Quebec EV rebate in 2026?

Quebec's Roulez vert program was reduced in January 2026. It now offers $2,000 for new BEVs (down from $7,000) and $1,000 for PHEVs with 15+ kWh battery. The program is set to end permanently on December 31, 2026. No country-of-origin restriction, so Chinese EVs qualify for the provincial rebate.

Are Chinese EVs eligible for Canadian rebates?

It depends. Chinese-built EVs are NOT eligible for the $5,000 federal EVAP rebate because Canada has no free-trade agreement with China. However, provincial programs like Quebec Roulez vert and PEI have no country-of-origin restriction, so Chinese EVs qualify for those. If a Chinese brand assembles vehicles in Canada (like the proposed Stellantis/Leapmotor plant in Brampton), those vehicles could qualify for federal EVAP.

How do I apply for EV incentives?

For the federal EVAP rebate, the dealer applies the discount at the point of sale (only for eligible vehicles made in Canada or FTA countries). For provincial incentives like Quebec Roulez vert, you apply online through the provincial program website after purchase. Note: BC, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick no longer offer provincial EV rebates as of 2025-2026.
