Overview
About the Polestar 4
The Polestar 4 is one of the most audacious EV designs on sale: a SUV coupé that eliminates the rear window entirely, replacing it with a high-definition camera feeding a digital rearview mirror. The result is a wider, unobstructed rear view and one of the cleanest rear profiles on any production car. The dual-motor AWD version produces 400 kW (544 hp) and 686 Nm of torque, launching this 2,435 kg SUV coupé to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds — genuine performance credentials. A 100 kWh NMC battery delivers 560 km of WLTP range; in Canadian winters, expect roughly 420 km. The 526-litre trunk and flat-floor cabin offer real family practicality beneath the dramatic styling. 200 kW DC fast charging fills from 10 to 80% in about 25 minutes. At $69,900 CAD, the Polestar 4 exceeds Quebec's $65K Roulez vert cap and, as a Chinese-built vehicle, is not eligible for the federal $5,000 EVAP rebate — meaning zero government incentives. The compromises: the camera-only rear system creates a dependency on technology that some drivers find disorienting, the price pushes into BMW iX and Mercedes territory without the brand cachet, and Polestar's dealer network in Canada is tiny. But for buyers who want a head-turning, genuinely fast electric SUV coupé with Scandinavian design and Geely's manufacturing muscle, the Polestar 4 is a bold statement.
Editorial take
Our Verdict
Strengths
- 544 hp, AWD, 3.8 s to 100 km/h — genuine performance SUV with stunning design
- Camera rearview system provides a wider, unobstructed field of view — a genuine innovation
- 560 km WLTP and 100 kWh battery — real range and power for long-distance driving
Watch Out For
- $69,900 with zero incentives — exceeds Quebec's $65K cap and no federal EVAP (Chinese-built)
- Camera-only rear view is polarizing — some drivers find it disorienting in traffic
- Tiny Polestar dealer network in Canada — service and support are thin on the ground

What this means for Canada
Two things buyers consistently get wrong. First, there is no rear window at all: a 2.5-megapixel roof-mounted camera feeds an 8.9-inch screen where the rearview mirror would be, with a button to switch back to a conventional mirror view. Second, the Polestar 4 has no air suspension — unlike the Polestar 3 — just passive dampers, or active ZF dampers with the Performance pack. The head-up display, Harman Kardon audio, three-zone climate and electrochromic roof are all options, never standard.

Equipment compared
Price and range only tell half the story. Here is the equipment, line by line, against the rival you would actually cross-shop.

The two columns do not rest on the same footing. The rival is described from its Canadian specification; the Chinese vehicle from the market where it is actually sold today. Any future Canadian version could differ.
Tesla Model Y Standard Range — These figures describe the Rear-Wheel Drive, the version this page covers. The Premium All-Wheel Drive at $64,990 adds 15-speaker audio with a subwoofer, ventilated front seats and 11.5 kW AC charging. Separately, Tesla publishes unusually little equipment detail in Canada: a heat pump, Apple CarPlay, front trunk volume and pack architecture appear nowhere on tesla.com/en_CA — for the heat pump that is a documentation gap, not a missing part, so read those cells as unknown rather than absent. What Tesla does confirm: NACS charging with a J1772 adapter included, and Full Self-Driving (Supervised) as an $11,000 option or $99 a month.
"Not published" means the manufacturer does not document this — not that the vehicle lacks it.
