Driving the GWM Ora Good Cat in Halifax

Halifax is a mid-size city (450K people) in Nova Scotia, with a climate that is humid maritime with mild winters (-5 to -15°C) and cool summers (18–23°C). For EV drivers, this means the GWM Ora Good Cat's rated 400 km of range becomes roughly 300 km in peak winter conditions — still enough to cover about 7 days of typical commuting (40 km/day round trip) between charges. GWM has not announced a Canadian sales date or dealership locations.

Charging in Nova Scotia: Nova Scotia has over 170 public charging stations through NSP's eCharge network, spread along Highway 102 and Highway 104. For Halifaxdrivers specifically, this means you'll find charging options in and around the city, with expanding DC fast-charge coverage along main highways. The key long-distance corridor for Halifax drivers is Highway 102 and Highway 104 (Trans-Canada), with DC fast chargers every 80–100 km.

EV market context: Nova Scotia has about 3,500 EVs registered, with strong coastal adoption. The GWM Ora Good Cat, with an estimated starting price of $28,000 CAD, slots into the hatchback segment where it competes against both legacy automakers and other Chinese brands entering Canada in 2026.

Fuel vs electricity savings: A Halifax driver covering 20,000 km per year pays approximately $432/year to charge the GWM Ora Good Cat at home (assuming $0.12/kWh and average Canadian electricity rates), compared to about $2,970/yearfor a comparable gasoline vehicle at 9 L/100 km. That's an annual saving of roughly $2,538, or $12,690 over 5 years — not counting reduced maintenance costs (no oil changes, fewer brake replacements thanks to regenerative braking).

Incentives and rebates: Nova Scotia does not currently offer a provincial EV purchase rebate. Chinese-made EVs like the GWM Ora Good Cat are not eligible for the federal EVAP program (formerly iZEV), which applies only to vehicles manufactured in Canada or FTA partner countries with a final transaction value of $50,000 or less.
