The Chinese EV Impact

With BYD, Chery, and other Chinese manufacturers entering Canada in 2026, analysts project significant market disruption. Chinese EVs are priced 30-50% below current market leaders, which could accelerate EV adoption dramatically — especially in price-sensitive segments where no affordable options currently exist.

The federal government has set an import quota of 49,000 Chinese EVs for 2026, suggesting they expect significant demand. Qu\u00e9bec and BC — provinces with the highest EV adoption — are likely to see the strongest initial sales due to stacked provincial incentives.
